Sizing

An accurate fit is the key with Oval-8 Finger Splints. The Oval-8 eBook has helpful information on how to choose the correct size Oval-8:

Since swelling or temperature changes can affect your finger size, choosing only one size does not always guarantee that size will be 100% correct. We suggest choosing an Oval-8 Graduated Set of 3 sizes to get the right fit for you. If you are replacing a splint or know the size you need, single size packages of 1,3 or 5 splints are available.

Please Note: Oval-8 Finger Splints are a medical product and in some cases may require custom sizing to assure the best fit for your condition. Please refer to the Oval-8 Guide for information on finding a healthcare provider in your area trained in custom fitting splints.

Wear & Care

Wear: Oval-8 Finger Splints can be worn day or night and multiple splints can be worn without limiting the movement of your hands. Oval-8’s can be worn over bandages or with Gel Tubes or Gel Mate for cushioning and protection.

Please monitor your finger color and temperature. Your finger may discolor slightly when you first put your splint on. If the color does not return to normal after 5 to 10 minutes of wear, remove the splint or try a different size. Please check with your healthcare provider if you experience any discomfort or circulatory concerns.

Care: Hand washable and waterproof. You can wear your Oval-8 Finger Splints in the water without removing them.

How do I know what size Oval-8 I need?
For splints to do their job effectively, they need to fit correctly. Choosing the correct size Oval-8 Finger Splint requires care and attention. Purchasing the Oval-8 Sizing Set is the most accurate way for you to choose the correct size. However, if you choose to purchase Individual Splints or a Graduated Set, we have created a very helpful e-book, The Oval-8 Finger Splint Guide. This printable e-book has all the information you will need to determine where and how to measure your finger or thumb. Once you have read the e-book, you can determine the size(s) that are most likely to fit the finger you are treating.

I have a Mallet Finger and it hurts when I put pressure on the top of my finger. Can I wear an Oval-8?
Oval-8 Finger Splints are an excellent option for treating Mallet Finger. If you have an open sore or just recently sustained the injury, we recommend waiting until the sore is healed and some of the swelling has gone down before switching to an Oval-8. If the finger remains sore over the top of the joint, use a Gel Tube, a piece of Gel Mate silicone gel, or a gel lined bandage to cushion the joint. You may require a larger size to fit over any cushion or bandage. You may also need to have the splint adjusted by your doctor or therapist to make certain the fit and length are correct for your finger.

How many Oval-8's come in a package?
Individual size packages come with either 1, 3 or 5 splints per size. Oval-8 splints are also sold in Graduated Sets that have 3 consecutive sizes (ex: 4,5 & 6) in a package and in a Sizing Set that includes one of each of the 14 sizes (sizes 2 through 15)

How do I wear the Oval-8 Splint?
The Oval-8 will fit on either the end joint of your finger closest to the fingernail or on the middle joint. How you wear an Oval-8 depends on what problem you are having with your finger. We recommend taking a look at our e-book Oval-8 Conditions eBook: 7 Common Finger Conditions Treated by the Oval-8 Finger Splint or watching our videos on how to use Oval-8s to treat different conditions including Mallet Finger, Swan Neck Deformity, Trigger Finger/Trigger Thumb and more.

Wear Oval-8 Splints on the end joint of your finger closest to the fingernail if you are treating:
• Mallet or Baseball Finger
• Straightening your finger joint to reduce the affect of Arthritis or Heberden’s Nodes (bumps or enlargement of the end joint.
• Reducing hyperflexibility due to ligament injury or Ehlers Danlos Syndrome

Wear Oval-8 Splints on the middle joint of your finger if you are treating:
• Trigger finger
• Swan Neck Deformity
• Boutonniere Deformity
• Straightening the middle joint of your finger to reduce the affect of Arthritis or Bouchard’s Nodes (bumps or enlargement of the end joint)
• Reducing hyperflexibility of the middle joint due to ligament injury or Ehlers Danlos Syndrome
• Stabilizing a broken finger (one or two splints)

Wear an Oval-8 on or just below the end joint of your thumb if you are treating:
• Trigger thumb
• Straightening or stabilizing the end joint if it is turning sideways or bending too far backwards

What can I do if the Oval-8 is too long or does not fit the way I want it to?
Depending on your condition and the size and length of your finger, the Oval-8 may need to be adjusted to achieve a perfect fit for you. Adjusting an Oval-8 Finger Splint requires the use of a high temperature heating tool (one that heats to 300 degrees or more). We strongly suggest that adjustments are made by a healthcare provider trained in custom fitting splints.
